Warning...Due to Xtreme exhaustion, the post was meant to be on Saturday 13/10/07..ty, Enjoy Reading..
Yes... Holidays...Mid-Term Break...Finally a week worth of free time to slowly fix up my already messed up life schedule. I have everything planned out and what's 1st? Working during Raya (groan). Still having evil thoughts bout SR, i was certain to find another job on Raya. There's when opportunity presents itself, Shangrila Hotel, Saturday, Rm12 per hour. If it wasn't for my classmates, i wouldn't have gotten this "wonderful" experience. Thank you guys...
Well... lets start. i was told to be at the hotel at 6;30 a.m.. yup, that early. So, woke up at 5, waited for Ed and Brian, and left home before 6. The road all the way there was perfect for racing. Sadly, dad was driving. Sobs. When we got there, we encounter many obstacles, most of which are our confusions in the location, the signing up proses and many more. We turned up in a dinning room, joined the rest of the group, noticing we'd just missed half of the briefing. From the briefing, i realise they're only 5 KDu students, majority was students from Stamford and a few TAR college.
From the very beginning, i was thinking that i would be serving in the hotel under some famous restaurant. In the end, we were the few lucky 24 to be picked and was assign to serve in Istana Negara instead. Yippee!!!
U won't believe how "nice" the place was. Shiny, gold, Shiny, silver, fake la... Over there, we were divided into groups. We (Brian, Ed, me and 2 Stamford students) were assign to serve beverages. I thought that was easy, wait till you try carrying a tray with a glass filled with serviettes and 5 glass of fruit juices. you'll be carrying after the first 10 mins and wish you were assigned else where. The tray, gold and shiny it is, weight bout 3kg plus the glass mentioned earlier. Put it all together, you're walking around carrying 5kg with one hand, straining your muscles and serving royalties with a smile. Cool ya...
I do not know what function was it, seems to be a open house to be cause i only saw people like Ong Ka Ting discussing in a corner. Prime minister? Agong? or those highly rank fellas are no where to be find. Well, there were a few jokers which i don't know were sitting on armchairs and look (how shud i say it) ancient...
The closing was sucky. Keep this, Keep that, Carry this, Carry that. Few moments later, everyone turned into professional models and photographers, snapping everything in sight. Back in the kitchens, we met Justin and fren who also took the job, now munching down leftover food which was mountainous. Fruits, cookies, chocolate, chicken pie, satay, lemang, curry, fried squid, etc. Just Snatch them all... God it was delicious.
We went back to Shangrila round 4. Exhausted from carrying all the tables and equipments, we went straight to the cafeteria. There was suppose to be a meeting going on for the next event at that time, but we hacked it. Most of our battery were down to zero. We decided to leave and signed out at 5p.m.
It was a lifetime experience for me, the exposure to serve in such environment was unforgettable. Few things i know, i must really put lot of work on my strength and also reading up on the names of a few people i should have recognise that day.
Pictures? Dun worry...They're coming soon.
To my fellow hotel classmates, work a lot on yur strength now as well as yur brains, u'll definitely need some in future.
